Governance

The Jain Network is governed in line with the Charity Commission and Companies House regulations and as per management enshrined in the Jain tradition. The Jain Network is a registered charity (No: 1131386) and a not-for-profit company (No: 06752627) in England and Wales. The Jain Network was founded by the late Dr Natubhai Shah. Dr Samir Shah is the network’s current president.

The Jain Network’s founder organisations are Jain Sangha of Europe, Jain Academy, and Ahimsa for Quality of Life, which are all independent charities.

The Jain Network is managed by an Executive Board of Trustees which has an elected Chair and several officer positions. These are listed below. Trustees also hold different portfolios that relate to events and services which are delivered by the network.  Election of Trustees is undertaken in accordance with the Jain Network constitution.

The Executive Board is responsible for all Jain Network activities. These include the development of the new Jain Centre in Colindale, North London, fundraising, strategic planning, management of regular activities, quality standards, risk management, and monitoring and evaluation of our work and projects. The Jain Network may appoint different committees, overseas non-executive trustees, patrons, ambassadors, staff, advisors, volunteers, and others as required.

The majority of activities are carried out by volunteers. The Jain Network follows UK statutory regulations and has in place policies and procedures for financial management, health and safety, safeguarding, equal opportunities, communication, network working groups and volunteers.

The Jain Network is affiliated with the Faith Forum for London, Barnet Multifaith Forum, Barnet SACRE, Faith-based Regeneration Network, National Council of Voluntary Organisations UK, Barnet Hindu Council, National Council of Gujarati Organisations, Council of Dharmic Faiths, National Council of Vanik Associations, Colindale Community Development Trust and the Graham Park Consortium.

The Jain International Organisation (JIO) launched its UK chapter at the House of Commons on the 5th August 2016. The Jain Network is the international headquarters of JIO.
